Selma (PG13)
August 15th @ 9:00pm
In partnership with the BLACKBuster Film Series (a Victoria-based youth organization), Legacy Drive-In is proud to bring you "Selma" on Saturday, August 15th at 9:00pm.
PLOT: Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 legally desegregated the South, discrimination was still rampant in certain areas, making it very difficult for blacks to register to vote. In 1965, an Alabama city became the battleground in the fight for suffrage. Despite violent opposition, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his followers pressed forward on an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, and their efforts culminated in President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The BLACKBuster film series aims to create space for ongoing intentional dialogue around the Black Lives Movement in order to create sustainable action. Screenings of Black films are the medium used to ignite community conservation and local action. Each film screening will be followed by a panel discussion composed of local community leaders, activists, and organizers.
More information about the BLACKBuster Film Series and upcoming events can be found on their Facebook page HERE.
**In the event that a show is canceled due to winds in excess of 50 km/h, ticket purchasers will be given a full refund and the movie will be rescheduled to a later date**
